Are you excited about getting a new tattoo done? Well if you are – great, because it really is worth getting excited about!
But despite all your excitement, you shouldn’t let it get the better of you. Just ’cause you’re excited is no reason to rush over to the very first tattoo parlor that you find and get one put on you right then and there. As you could very well end up with a life-long mess of a tattoo that really doesn’t live up to your expectations. So slow down.
Instead, what you should concentrate on doing is looking around and trying to find out as much as you can about as many tattoo artists as possible! Get out there and start seeking and meeting tattoo artists.
- Explore tattoo parlor after tattoo parlor if that makes you feel comfortable… but do it.
- Watch some of the artists at work if they allow you too.
- Never hesitate to ask them questions about their experience
- If you can, request samples of designs and such, if you really are interested.
If you haven’t a clue where to start, then try your friends, or the internet. Surely someone among your friends has had a tattoo done before, or known someone who had a tattoo done before, and they should be able to give you some valuable pointers as to where you should go….or maybe… where you should not go! They may even be able to recommend a particularly good tattoo artist, or warn you about a particularly bad one.
Similarly, searching the internet for listings and addresses of tattoo parlors in your area and then going to visit with them one by one.
- Check out their operation, see if you could feel comfortable in their shop.
- Does the shop look relatively clean?
- Does it look sanitary?
- Don’t feel rushed. This is important so check it out wisely.
I can’t say which comes first… finding the right tattoo parlor, the right tattoo artist, or the right tattoo… but it’s all important. Equally important.
Basically, do whatever it takes to find out as much as you can about all the tattoo artists in your area, learn their reputations, speak to happy customers, and learn of the individual tattoo artists specialties. Do they work better with small tattoos, larger tattoos, tattoos for men, for women, tattoos on the upper chest, the lower back. Do they have an area of preference and tattoo styles they specialize in. These are reasonable questions. That you should know before venturing out to have a tatto put onto you.
Armed with the answers to these questions, you’ll then be ready to pick the artist that you feel suits your purposes best!
